17-yr-old UP girl gang-raped at a railway station in Gopalganj
Patna: A 17-year-old girl from Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh was abducted and gang-raped by three people at a railway station in Gopalganj district on Monday.
The incident took place on early Monday morning when she went near a temple on the station campus to fetch water for her ailing father. She arrived in the district from the neighbouring state for her father's treatment. She was supposed to return to Kushinagar on Sunday evening, but as the train was cancelled, she planned to take the train at 4.30am on Monday.
The police arrested one of the accused and are conducting a search for the other two.
Gopalganj SP, Avdhesh Dixit, said, "The heinous crime was carried out in the ruins of a warehouse in the railway compound. Three people were involved in the crime. While one of the accused Abhishek Bind has been arrested, the other two have been identified. Raids are being carried out to arrest the other two. The medical examination of the girl has been conducted at the sadar hospital."
According to the police, the girl came to Gopalganj from Uttar Pradesh around 10am on Sunday by a train to get her father treated who is suffering from paralysis. They went to a village to meet a doctor and returned to the railway station on Sunday evening to catch a train. However, they couldn't return to their home because the evening train was cancelled, so they stayed at the railway station. They planned to take the next train, which was at 4.30am on Monday, they said.
Her father felt thirsty, so she went to fetch water from a handpump near a temple on the station campus around 3.30am. "Seeing her alone, three youths caught her by covering her mouth and took her to a nearby alley where they committed the crime. The assailants also snatched her earrings and other jewellery. Injury marks were found on her cheeks and other parts of the body. After the incident, the three fled, and the girl somehow reached her father and narrated the incident. Subsequently, the father informed local people, and the police arrived at the scene," said SDPO Pranjal.
The SDPO said the accused are local youths with no criminal history. Further investigation is going on in the matter, he said, adding an FIR was registered under Posco Act.
